Champions League Odds: Juventus well backed for European glory since Ronaldo's arrival

The 33-year-old's transfer from Real Madrid this summer has seen his new side well backed to replicate Los Blancos' success in Europe next season

When Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Juventus was confirmed on July 11, bookmakers made the Serie A holders an 8/1 (9.0) chance to win the Champions League.

Those prices are long gone now though, with just 6/1 (7.0) available on Ronaldo leading Juve to European glory in the 2018-19 campaign.

It's easy to see why Juventus are a popular bet too. Their new €100m signing is the competition's leading scorer with 120 goals in just 153 games. That phenomenal performance in front of goal has showed little sign of slowing down either.

Ronaldo has won the top scorer prize in each of the previous three campaigns and Real Madrid emerged triumphant on each occasion under the stewardship of Zinedine Zidane.

Los Blancos have clearly become masters of their craft when it comes to knockout football and it would be unfair to expect Juve to replicate that purely based on the arrival of Ronaldo in Turin.

However, the Old Lady have contested two of the previous four Champions League finals and many punters clearly feel that the 33-year-old Portugal international could be one of the finishing touches in elevating the Italian champions to go one better.

What's more, the fact that Juventus are such a short price for their domestic division - 4/9 (1.44) at the time of writing - could mean Ronaldo's fitness and focus could be directed towards a tilt at European glory than was previously possible during his illustrious career.

Barcelona and Manchester City are joint 11/2 (6.50) favourites to win the Champions League, Real Madrid 13/2 (7.50).

That's half a point bigger than Juventus, despite the fact that the defending champions have won each of the previous three editions.

While bookmakers' prices aren't always accurate, such a market does demonstrate just how much of an effect Ronaldo's move to Juventus is expected to have and conversely how the the layers feel changes at the Bernabeu might affect Los Blancos' chances of re-claiming their crown.

Paris Saint-Germain were favourites for the title after the group stages last season and the Ligue 1 winners are 7/1 (8.0) to go all the way this time around. Les Parisiens are the same price as Bayern Munich and then there's a significant jump to Liverpool at 12/1 (13.0).

Atletico Madrid and Manchester United are 14/1 (15.0) and every other contender is 25/1 (26.0) or bigger.
