Tottenham leapfrog City. Who will win the 2018/19 Premier League title?
Today marked the official halfway point in the Premier League season, Betting Insider round up yesterday's action and market movers...
Manchester City struggle once again
It looked like Man City were back to their best after going 1-0 up at the King Power Stadium thanks to a Benardo Silva goal after 14 minutes. However their lead didn't last long as five minutes later Leicester found an equaliser through Marc Albrighton.
And the Foxes' fun didn't end there.
The visitors didn't look like their stellar selves once again and without a clean sheet in eight games, they needed a victory to keep close to the league leaders, Liverpool. But in the 81st minute, Ricardo Pereira made sure that the Citizens would be leaving without a smile on their faces, making the final scoreline 2-1 to the hosts. To add insult to injury, Fabian Delph saw red for a poor challenge.
With two defeats in a row for the defending champions, Man City now find themselves at 2.92 to win the Premier League this season. Alarming when just a couple of weeks back they were trading at long odds-on having been matched at under 1.25 this season.
Tottenham leapfrog City
The most surprising thing about the Man City defeat is that they drop down to third and Tottenham move up to second after their 5-0 victory over Bournemouth, extending their winning streak to five games. Son Heung-min found the net twice and Harry Kane also got onto the scoresheet, the latter now has 12 league goals and is 3.40 to be Top Scorer by the end of the season. With Spurs now six points behind Liverpool, they are 10.00 to win the title.
Liverpool extend their lead
It was another day in the office for Liverpool as they thumped Newcastle 4-0, to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League. Could this be their year? The Outright market is now 1.79 for the Reds to win.
Mohamed Salah, along with Kane, is now on 12 goals for the season and is still the slight favourite for Top Scorer at 3.35., though Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would later move ahead of the charts with his 13th league goal of the season.
Burnley and Huddersfield face Boxing day blues
Burnley were on the receiving end of another thumping, this time at home against Everton. The Toffees put five past them in a 5-1 drubbing that sees Burnley shorten to 1.33 for relegation. They are favourites along with Huddersfield who are at the same price after their 3-1 defeat against Manchester United.
Elsewhere, Fulham moved off the bottom spot after their 1-1 draw with Wolves but are still 1.60 for the drop, along with Cardiff who drew 0-0 away at Crystal Palace.
Gunners drop points but Blues scrape win
In Boxing Day's evening kick-offs Arsenal slipped to fifth in the table and were overtaken by Chelsea following a 1-1 draw at Brighton, while the Blues later won 2-1 at Watford thanks to a brace of goals - including his 100th for the club - from Eden Hazard.
Chelsea are now two points ahead of Arsenal and eight ahead of Manchester United as the race to finish in the top four gathers pace.
The Blues can be backed at 1.45 in the Top 4 Finish market, Arsenal trade at 2.90, with United the outsiders of the trio at 5.00.
