Betting Preview: Who will win the Serie A?
Exciting time awaits the Italian top-flight following the arrival of five-time Ballon Do’or winner
The 2018/19 Italian Serie A gets underway on Saturday the 18th of August, 2018 when ChievoVerona try reigning Champions Juventus for size at Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi. The Old Lady claimed their 34th title - a record - after garnering 95 points in 38 games.
Last season it was a close contest between Juve and Napoli and this term it is looking more exciting with AS Roma and Inter Milan also aiming for glory with the outsiders not left out as well.
Main Contenders
Juventus (1.40)
The Old Lady clinched their seventh consecutive title, this time, narrowly, after edging Napoli with only four points. They lost three games and drew five times on their way to ultimate glory but are however not looking to rest on their hoax after luring five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. Although they will be missing the services of their veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon who moved to French outfit Paris Saint-Germain, including striker Gonzalo Higuain who joined AC Milan on a season-long loan, they are hot favourites to retain the diadem.
Inter Milan (7.00)
Luciano Spalletti’s men beat rivals Lazio on the final game of the season to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in seven years. They will be hoping to build on the feat this term and claim the title last won in 2010, banking on their reliable striker Mauro Icardi who notched 29 league goals last season to finish as top-scorer.
Napoli (8.00)
The Partenopei were a thorn on the flesh of Juventus all through last season and gathered massive 91 points although it was not enough to claim the coveted trophy. This term, they will be aiming to clinch the title narrowly missed. Carlo Ancelotti has since stepped in after the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea. Considering the wealth of experience of the new manager, coupled by their exploit last term they are one of the favourites to nick the Serie A crown.
AS Roma (8.00)
Eusebio Di Francesco’s men finished a distant third last term after scooping 77 points, 14 behind runners-up Napoli and 18 adrift of the champions. They will, however, be looking to improve on that performance this season and aim for the top prize and have bolstered their squad with new additions in their quest to achieve that target.
Outsiders
AC Milan (17.00)
The Rossoneri are the joint-second most successful club in Serie A with 18 titles. However, they only managed to clinch a Europa League place last season after gathering 64 points. Punters looking for massive returns can back them to claim the diadem that hasn't been seen at the San Siro since 2011.
Lazio (67.00)
Simone Inzaghi’s charges gave a huge fight last season for a place in the Champions League but lost out to Inter on the last day after a 2-3 defeat thus settling for the Europa League after mustering 71 points. Having won the league twice in their history, it will not be out of place for them to claim the coveted trophy for the third time if things go their way.
