Crystal Palace looked down and out after just seven games of the 2017/18 Premier League campaign, but the appointment of Roy Hodgson completely reversed their fortunes and dragged them off the bottom of the table. Unfortunately for them, this resurgence has hit a bit of a stumbling block recently.
They lost 1-0 at home to Spurs last weekend to make it five games without a win in the Premier League, with a very tough fixture list at least partly to blame. They have lost to Arsenal and Spurs in this period, and are now facing games against Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool in their next four matches.
This has put The Eagles back into a bit of a vulnerable position, and they now sit down in 17th position and are only outside the drop zone on goal difference. In addition, the hosts don’t tend to perform particularly well against the top teams in the Premier League. They often sit back and invite pressure, and this has resulted in a failure to score in all six of their meetings with the top four so far.
Manchester United are high on confidence as well, after they managed a 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend. This followed on from a goalless draw in Seville in their first leg of the Champions League. They remain in 2nd position in the Premier League, but are still a huge 13 points adrift of Manchester City.
