Manchester United come into this game having undergone major changes since their 3-1 defeat at Anfield last weekend. Jose Mourinho has been sacked from his post, replaced by interim manager and fan favourite Ole Gunnar Solksjaer for the remainder of the season. The Norwegian had an ill fated spell at the helm of Cardiff earlier in his managerial career and will be keen to show his former employers how much he has grown since returning to Molde. He has a big job to do at Old Trafford though. Manchester United come into this game having won just 1 of their last 6 Premier League matches, and they find themselves 11 points adrift of the top 4 and enduring their worst start to a league season since the 1990/91 campaign. I believe that this can give impetus. This is a man from the Ferguson era, so I am glad for his arrival and I will support our Ole. But I also deem that everything will not be all at once, so Cardiff may have opportunities
Former United striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer begins life as United caretaker manager at Cardiff, the club who sacked him back in 2014 having failed to keep the Bluebirds in the Premier League before a moderate start to their Championship campaign. That said Solskjaer has an excellent reputation in Norway where his Molde side finished runner up to Rosenborg this season. I would like to wish him all the very best for this exciting new opportunity and challenge and fully expect his United side to play with more pace and flair than has been the case in recent times. His team selection for the game at Cardiff will be significant and very interesting! United have lost their last three away games at newly promoted clubs – which speaks volumes in itself – but I expect them to make a winning start to life without Jose Mourinho.
Cardiff have won four of their past five home games but this is going to be a very tough game for them. Whenever a new manager comes into any club, all the players are instantly far more focused. I can guarantee you that in United's training sessions this week, everything will have been really sharp and I would expect them to translate that into a convincing performance. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was not a success when he was Cardiff manager in 2014, but this is a completely different situation for him. I think he will get results, but what happens next at United is going to be very interesting.
This will be the 1st Manchester United's game without Jose Morinho. Club's legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be on the touch line as an interim manager and this time, players will have a lot to prove on the pitch.
Cardiff have perfectly alternated between winning and losing in each of their last seven league matches, winning the last 3 home games.
Manchester united are on a run of two straight defeats in all competitions and haven't lost three in a row since September 2016. They start the weekend eight points off the top four and desperately need to start Solskjaer's tenure with a win.
