Sevilla had not recovered since their 6 – 1 loss to Barcelona; they went on to lose to Celta Vigo before drawing with Eibar. The results against Eibar and Celta Vigo have seen the side cede crucial ground in their hope to hold on a Champions League place and now they are seven points off third placed Atletico Madrid but that is not their biggest concern; they are just two points above Getafe and Deportivo Alaves, who also have Champions League ambitions. Just like Villarreal, Sevilla also picked an away win in the Europa League and being 17 points ahead of their opponents for the weekend, they will be confident they can pick a win. Sevilla have failed to score in three of their last five La Liga matches and have managed just one clean sheet in the process. It has been tougher away from home; Sevilla have no win in eight away league matches and they take on a side winless in the last 10 La Liga matches while they have just one win in the last 13 home matches in La Liga. Sevilla are unbeaten in six matches against Villarreal but four of the six matches ended in draws, three of them barren. In 39 meetings, Villarreal have managed just eight wins while Sevilla have 19.
