The pressure is on PSG on Tuesday night, as they play their part in the most dramatic group in this season’s Champions League. We always expected Liverpool, Napoli and the French champions to fight to the wire for a spot in the next round. However, Red Star have proved to be the shock side in Group C. While they can’t qualify for the last 16, a surprise turn of events could see them leapfrog Liverpool into third place and make the Europa League. Will the Serbian outfit surprise the Ligue 1 giants?
The final day drama sees Liverpool hosting Napoli in the fight for a last 16 place. While that clash has plenty of permutations, PSG have a pretty simple task – win. They know that three points guarantees them a spot in the next round. They come into this clash as the 1/6 favourites, so the bookies don’t expect any drama here. However, that’s going against the results so far. Group C has brought us 10 games so far, none of which have been won by an away side. Will PSG end that streak?
Red Star kicked off the group by holding Napoli to a draw, a result which looked like a blow to the Partenopei’s hopes of going through. However, their 2-0 win over Liverpool was an even bigger surprise, and that’s contributed to the Reds being out of the top two ahead of the final game. Now PSG make this trip knowing that a victory is what they need to guarantee a place in the last 16. Could this be the night when Red Star blow the hopes of the most expensively assembled squad in Europe?
We expect the visitors to get a real test here. They won the first meeting 6-1, but Liverpool were 4-0 winners at Anfield weeks before they were beaten in Serbia. the hosts have a fearsome atmosphere, and PSG have a habit of now functioning as a unit. Defensive concerns remain over the French champions, who have seen both teams score in their last nine matches in Europe.
The visitors have seen both teams score in their recent trips to Bordeaux and Strasbourg, while they are meeting a Red Star side who are improving in Europe. The hosts have found the net in three of their last four games in this group, including one away to PSG. While we still see PSG bucking the trend of home wins, we’re backing them to concede in this trip. Both teams to score is my tip.
Belgrade hosts Paris in the Champions League on Tuesday. So far Belgrade have been so good at home as they've won 1 and drew 1. PSG may have scored in every game so far this season but they are winless in the last 4 CL awaygames. Ofcourse PSG can win this game like 3:0 or so but considering how both Napoli and Liverpool struggled in Serbia then i hope that even if hosts lose they don't get humiliated.
