Netherlands began poorly in World Cup Qualifying (WCQ), falling to a 3-0 deficit vs Turkey after just 46 minutes - the fastest they’ve suffered that humiliation in competitive action since 1961! However this should be easier given Latvia’s lowly #136 ranking by FIFA, as the ‘Oranje’ have won by a 2+ goal margin in five of their last six clashes with UEFA nations ranked outside of the top #100 (W6).
Formidable on their own patch, the Netherlands have won 11 of their last 14 competitive home games (L3), winning ten via a 2+ goal margin, whilst they only lost against top #13 ranked nations during that period. Topically, the Netherlands’ last three home games vs UEFA nations outside of the top #100 produced over 3.5 goals and were won by 2+ goals.
Latvia scored first and held their own for large periods against Montenegro last time out, but ultimately lost. The visitors dug their heels in to draw four of their six recent UEFA Nations League games, although that will be harder here as Latvia have lost ‘to nil’ in their last six games vs UEFA nations ranked within five places of the Netherlands.
5-0
The Netherlands need to redeem themselves but it seems they are struggling to deliver results consistently. I have no doubts that they'll get 3 points here but placing a bet on their win for a tiny gain makes no sense. However, I looking at the results in the qualifiers over the last few days, I've made a conclusion that big sides tend to beat smaller teams by a tiny difference on most occasions. I don't expect the hosts to score more than 3 or 4.
