Spain laboured to the last-16, with Fernando Hierro's side stuttering through Group B. A last gasp Iran penalty against Portugal saw them secure their spot as group winners, where they'll face a Russia side reeling from a 3-0 loss to Uruguay.
The World Cup hosts breezed past Saudi Arabia and Egypt, but appeared out of their depth against Uruguay. Head coach Stanislav Cherchesov will look for an immediate response when they face Spain in Sunday's early kick off.
However, Russia struggled against Uruguay and Spain have the means to secure a quarter-final spot at the hosts' expense here, even taking into account their sub-par form in the group stages.

Spain, still one of the favourites to win the competition, a last-minute goal from Aspas made them top of the group. Excellent to watch and I expect them to go further in the competition. Russia were brought back down to earth with the 3-0 defeat to Uruguay, but they’ve been a success just qualifying out of the group. This will be a tough ask for Russia but they have the home support right behind them. I'm going 2-1 Spain.

Spain will have absolutely no problems at all against Russia. The Russia we expected at this tournament was the Russia we saw the other day against Uruguay. That was them all over - they are a poor side. Uruguay normally beat teams by the odd goal but they ripped Russia to shreds.

I haven't been that impressed by Spain at all but I can't see anything but a comfortable Spain win. I expect them to win easy.

I don't see Spain having too many problems here. They may not have ticked the box quite yet as potential winners but when it matters, we'll see the reality. However, I'm still not convinced with them defensively. There are mistakes there and David de Gea has had an awful tournament so far. That's where they've got to improve.

Meanwhile, Russia have had an okay tournament so far but when they needed to deliver against Uruguay they couldn't. The same will happen here. When you are the host nation and you don't see a lot of the ball it must be incredibly tough. They'll be lucky to see 35 per cent of this ball against Spain and for that reason, the Spanish will go on and dominate the game.

Russia have done very well to get this far, but I think Spain are a step up in class that will be too much for them.

The home support will help the hosts, and there are question marks over some of Spain's defending at this tournament, but the Spanish players will have so much of the ball on Sunday that I don't think it will be a great issue.
