The win over West Ham United was the first for Cardiff in four league matches and it saw them recover from a three – match losing streak while also securing them their first clean sheet in five matches. Cardiff have managed just four wins in their last 15 matches but they have five in 10 home matches. While they seem to be improving, especially at home, Cardiff will feel they have a lot to do defensively, after losing by three or more goals in four of their last seven home games. Chelsea have one loss and three wins in their last five matches, and their quest for a top four place will be the biggest motivation in this game. They have three wins and two losses in their last five away matches, keeping just one clean sheet in that run. Their form in the league away from home has not been impressive; Chelsea have lost four of the last six. In the six, they have one clean sheet, and failed to score in four. They have conceded 15 goals and scored two in the last five away matches in the league. Each of the last eight matches between the two sides has yielded over 2.5 goals, with Chelsea definitely dominating. Each of the last 12 matches between the two sides has seen either side score, and we expect the same here. Chelsea have won each of the last four meetings between the two sides and have scored four goals in three of the four.
If it weren't for Chelsea's downright abysmal away for home currently, you'd have to back them to easily overcome Cardiff. But because of that, you just get the feeling they will be put to the test by the plucky, route one favoring hosts. Cardiff aren't going to make it pretty for Chelsea, and you can expect them to invite the Blues' high press onto them. Whether they can exploit it is another question. In the end, the visitors should just about triumph.
