A 16-point lead at the top of Serie A (SA) gives Juventus the freedom to rest their regulars against Udinese if they wish, especially with a must-win Champions League (CL) clash against Atlético Madrid coming up.Top of the league for most goals scored (55) and least conceded (16), unbeaten Juventus have dropped points just three times this SA season (W23, D3). However all three have been to teams outside the top six, giving a rare glimmer of hope to Udinese. Two of those have come at home, where Juventus have not lost a SA game since April 2018 (W13, D2). That defeat remains the only time Juventus have failed to score at home in SA since the start of 2018, whilst Juventus’ only competitive home loss this season came in the CL (W14, D2, L1).In contrast, the visitors have travelled poorly this SA campaign (W1, D4, L6) with only three teams registering fewer away points. Udinese have netted an average of just 0.73 goals per away game, with their defence conceding almost double that (1.36).Yet in a morale boost, Udinese have pulled seven points clear of the relegation zone after winning two consecutive SA fixtures, and now have three top-flight victories (half of their season total) across their last seven matches (W3, D1, L3).Players to watch: Mario Mandžukić (JUV) has scored six of his eight SA goals at home this season. Meanwhile Rodrigo de Paul (UDI) has clocked up three SA goals and three assists on the road.Stat attack: Juventus have scored the opener in 12 of their 13 SA home games. In 16 of their last 20 SA home matches, Juventus scored at least two goals.Udinese haven’t been leading at half-time in any of their 11 SA away games.Only one of Udinese’s eight away league goals arrived before the break.
Juventus remains the only unbeaten side in the Serie A and they have been by far the strongest; they head to this game with 12 wins in their last 15 matches. The two losses in the 15 matches have come in competitions other that the Italian league. Juventus have scored two goals or more in four of their last six matches. They have not lost any of their last nine home matches and in the run, they have seven clean sheets while in their last three home matches, they have scored three goals in each. The nine matches have produced eight wins and a draw. Udinese have two wins in their last six matches and will not be in a very strong position heading to Turin for this clash. One thing sure to work against them is the fact that they have done so poorly away from home in Serie A that they have managed no win in the last eight away league matches, and have picked just two away wins out of 19 matches in the league. Juventus are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Udinese, winning five of those.
