A Carabao Cup final date with Manchester City at Wembley is on offer for the winner of Thursday’s Semi Final second leg between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, and with Spurs holding only a slender one goal lead from the first leg, tensions are expected to be high at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have scored just 10 times in their last 10 fixtures in all competitions as Maurizio Sarri’s tactical plan begins to show signs of unravelling. At the other end of the pitch, Chelsea have been much more efficient however, and the Blues conceded just 7 times during the same period.
Spurs take a 1-0 lead into Thursday’s game at Stamford Bridge, though the man who scored that goal at Wembley, Harry Kane, is just one of a number of high-profile attacking players who will miss the second leg this week.
Alongside their talismanic centre forward Kane, Spurs will be without Dele Ali and Son Heung-Min who are injured and away on national team duty. Pacey Brazilian Lucas Moura is also a doubt, leaving Spurs with precious little options in the final third.
Spurs will be buoyed by their fantastic recent run of 8 wins in 10 however, and their confidence will be boosted further by their positive head-to-head record against Chelsea over the past year.
Tottenham have beaten the Blues on each of their last 3 meetings with them, scoring 7 times and conceding just once in the process. Worryingly for Spurs, 6 of those 7 goals were scored by players who will miss Thursday’s game.
With both Chelsea and Spurs short on firepower ahead of this week’s semi final second leg, it makes sense to expect few goals to fly in at Stamford Bridge. Chances are almost certain to be at a premium, though we think Spurs excellent recent form should give them the impetus to battle their way to a draw.
Chelsea have won 7 drawn 4 and lost 1 of their 12 home league games played, and sit 4th in the Premiership with 47 points , losing their last game played 2-0 away against Arsenal. Tottenham have won 11 and lost 2 of their 13 league away games played, and sit 3rd in the Premiership with 51 points, winning their last game played 1--2 away against Fulham. Tottenham have already beaten Chelsea 3-1 at home this season, and led 1-0 in the 1st leg of this Semi -Final in this League Cup scoring in the 26 min in a close game. Tottenham could be without their 2 main strikers for this 2nd leg , Chelsea have been very good at home this season. only losing once at home, beating Man City 2-0 and won their last league home game played 2-1 against Newcastle. Tottenham have won the last 3 meeting against Chelsea, I am taking Chelsea to win this match tonight.
