Spurs looked a little jaded in their midweek cup game against Chelsea and it was definitely a game they could have done without after the packed Xmas schedule while United were busy soaking up the rays in Dubai. Spurs have had the better of United in recent seasons but it’s hard to tell how improved United are until they face a top side but they do have plenty of attacking options so if Solskjaer goes on the offensive, they could spring a surprise here. I have faith in the best ... A new head coach has arrived and the results have improved, my tips are now successful. Come on, United!
Here's a proper test for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his 5 game winning run since coming in to replace Jose Mourinho is under real threat here. Spurs humbled ManUre at Old Toilet earlier in the season as they won 0-3 and they've won the last 3 meetings at home with ManUre in the Premier League. There's some real talent on show here for both sides and both sides really need to win in order to keep pace with their respective targets so I'm expecting to see an attacking game and both teams scoring seems highly likely. 9 of the last 10 away games for ManUre have seen both teams score also.
If you'd have asked me two weeks ago I would have said United did not have a chance, not a chance. But having watched Spurs at Wembley against Chelsea and Wolves, United have every chance now. Spurs let a half-time lead slip against Wolves, didn't have a shot on target in the second half and lost 3-1. Some put that down to tiredness but I'm not having any of that. Three days later they looked like the Harlem Globetrotters when they ripped Cardiff apart inside 20 minutes - they didn't look knackered then, did they? Spurs have opened the door to United but I think both teams won't be able to live with each other going forward. United are shockingly poor defensively, even the teams they've beaten recently looked like scoring every time they went forward. Sooner or later that catches up with you. I see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's winning start at United coming to an end but a great result for him at Wembley.
It is no doubt Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a great impact at Manchester United, restoring confidence in the once wobbly team under Jose Mourinho but in all honesty, all the five matches the Norwegian has been in charge of, the Red Devils were expected to win. Here now comes the real test and United will be happy to play this game at this particular moment, with their confidence lifted. Tottenham have failed to win just three of their last 18 matches, drawing one and losing two. They are the only side in the Premier League that has not drawn a game this season. With 17 goals in the last five matches, and conceding just three, Spurs will have no reason not regard this as a winnable clash, especially after their 3 – 0 win over United in the first leg and they head to this game on the back of a win over Chelsea in the League Cup but they will not forget the fact that three of their five losses this season have come at their backyard, against Manchester City, Liverpool and most recently, Wolverhampton Wanderers. United have managed two straight clean sheets going to this game, against Reading in the FA Cup and Newcastle United earlier on, they will want to keep up but they are facing a side that has scored in each of their last 12 matches. In the last eight meetings between these sides, each has won four times and there has been no draw in the last nine. This clash favors the home team more; Tottenham is the only side that has won this game away from home in the last 14 meetings, winning three. The team playing away has won this clash just thrice in the last 14 matches between the two. In 160 meetings between the two sides, Tottenham have picked 38 wins and United 83.
